The Council of Europe organised a the “European Conference on the Local Mission of Higher Education” on 18-19 June 2019 at the Council of Europe Headquarters in Strasbourg, in cooperation with the Anchor Institutions Task Force (USA), which aimed to explore the local role of higher education institutions in Europe as well as to establish organised European cooperation in this area.
TEFCE experts Thomas Farnell and Ninoslav Šćukanec Schmidt (from Institute for the Development of Education, Croatia) were invited to present the TEFCE project and Toolbox at the conference. The idea of the TEFCE Toolbox received positive feedback and numerous constructive questions, including how to avoid toolboxes becoming an administrative burden and how to ensure that an qualitative approach to assessment (that avoids metrics) can really influence policy, that usually relies and quantitative indicators and approaches.
The TEFCE team also presented arguments why community engagement should become a priority of the Bologna Process in the period after 2020, and cooperation was agreed with the Council of Europe to advocate for this position within structures of the Bologna Process Follow-up Group.
